Oct. 23 - Please Rate My Video

Me and a group of friends participated in the Apple Insomnia 24-Hour Film Festival. In order to be considered for the top prize, we have to accumulate a number of votes to move on to the next round. I would appreciate it if you would log in with your Apple ID (start a new one or use your iTunes log in) and rate it. Here's the link:

If you want to view a larger version, I uploaded it to YouTube as well.

Please remember to vote for it on the Apple page. If you like it, tell your friends. Feel free to post this link or video anywhere you want.

Oct. 18 - I know why the caged Strogg sings

I like music. I also like video games. But video game music (or music video games)? Most games have a pretty incidental score. There are also some iconic themes that are the gaming equivalent of "To be or not to be." However, I think great gaming music is more than that. Great gaming music can truly be called a soundtrack. Here are Nathan's picks for the greatest game soundtracks in three categories:

Rock

Yes, it's butt rock metal. Yes, it totally fits with running around industrial complexes shooting twisted alien monstrosities in the face with a double-barreled shotgun. I've been playing through this game again and remembering how much the music rocks. It really makes you feel like a bad-ass.

Techno

I was very happy that they put the soundtrack right on the game CD as regular audio tracks. I promptly ripped it so I could listen while not playing the game. The music is a perfect compliment to the varying stages and atmospheres of the game. The music is crucial in creepy moments and then busts out into a full rocking gallop during the bigger shootouts.

Orchestral/MIDI

WarCraft 2

Not only did this music aid you in feeling right at home in the epic, fantasy setting, it also sounds great when punctuated by the occasional, "Captain on the bridge," "Our town is under attack," or "Zug zug!" Not only that, but it was done completely in MIDI!
